We’re celebrating some big news 🎉—and it’s backed by science.
A new independent study from the Polytechnic University of Turin, published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials (August 2025), has confirmed that PlanetCare’s microfiber filter is the top-performing washing machine filter when it comes to stopping microplastic pollution at the source.
Researchers compared three leading washing machine microfiber filters (AEG Microplastic Filter (AEG), Lint LUV-R (LUV) and PlanetCare) under identical lab conditions. The results? PlanetCare came out on top, achieving a 68% microfiber retention rate*, while the other two filters retained only 35% and 52%.
Designed for cleaner laundry and a cleaner planet
The study also revealed that the PlanetCare washing machine microfiber filter had the lowest pressure drop, meaning it lets water flow freely while still capturing more microfibers. Even after 10 wash cycles, it showed minimal clogging, proving it’s both effective and long-lasting.
Why does it perform so well? It’s all in the design. Unlike single-layer filters, PlanetCare’s unique 3D, multilayer structure traps microfibers more efficiently—even with a nominal mesh size of 200 μm, it outperforms filters with finer 50 μm mesh.
“The design of the PlanetCare microfiber filter translated into lower overall pressure head losses, while simultaneously being associated with a higher capture performance.”

This independent test confirms once again: PlanetCare is leading the fight against microplastic pollution, right from your laundry room.
Why it matters
Most people don’t realize that washing clothes is one of the biggest sources of microplastic pollution. When we wash synthetic fabrics, millions of microfibers are released into our water systems. Once they escape down the drain, they’re gone for good—ending up in our oceans, our food, and even our bodies.
Over 60% of today’s clothing is made of plastic. And washing machines are the #1 source of microfibers in the ocean.
That’s why stopping them at the source is so important—and why we’re so proud to offer a solution that really works.

A proud moment for PlanetCare washing machine microfiber filter (and the planet)
This independent validation is a win for PlanetCare filter—but more importantly, it’s a win for the oceans, for science, and for every one of you who’s chosen to make your laundry routine part of the solution.
We’ve always said: it’s not just a filter. It’s a movement. 💙🌍

* Why is the 68% retention rate, we are so happy about, below our normally claimed 90+% retention rate? The authors of the study used a very precise analytical procedure involving a 1,6 micrometer cutoff limit which is substantially lower than the inofficial industry standard 50 micrometer cutoff. Results obtained with the more precise method will be significantly lower than those obtained with the less precise method so that the apparently worse result is perfectly in line with our normal claims.
