Polyester\u2014cheap, durable, and fossil-fuel based\u2014is now the cornerstone of fast fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Synthetic fibres make up 69% of textiles today<\/strong>, projected to reach 73% by 2030.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polyester alone caused <strong>125 million tonnes of CO\u2082 emissions in 2022<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2019, fashion contributed <strong>8.3 million tonnes of plastic pollution<\/strong>, or <strong>14% of the global total<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But this isn\u2019t just about oceans or climate. The consequences are <em>in our bodies<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Health Crisis No One Talks About<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The report highlights new and shocking research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><strong>\u201cMicroplastics have been found in human placentas, lungs, blood, bone marrow, brain tissue\u2014and even penises.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These synthetic fibers have been linked to chronic inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, and developmental harm in children. <strong>This is no longer theoretical.<\/strong> It\u2019s personal. It\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And it\u2019s not just this report.<\/strong> What we see here echoes the alarming findings from <strong>many other reports we've read<\/strong>\u2014microplastic pollution is a growing public health crisis. The <em>Fashion\u2019s Plastic Paralysis<\/em> report adds to a growing body of evidence that shows microplastics are not only an environmental issue\u2014they\u2019re a direct threat to human health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Perspective: Inaction Is Not an Option<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading this report reaffirmed what we already knew: <strong>the fashion industry is addicted to plastic\u2014and it\u2019s doing everything it can to protect the status quo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what gives us hope is this: <strong>our community is already changing things<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know microfibers don\u2019t just disappear. They pollute ecosystems, harm marine life, and enter the food chain. And while most brands stall, <strong>PlanetCare users are stopping up to 700,000 microfibers per wash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our community already counts more than 10,000 passionate individuals<\/strong>\u2014people who believe in practical solutions, who care deeply about the planet, and who are taking action every day to protect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not a small win. That\u2019s a movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">False Solutions: Why Recycling Isn't the Answer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many brands in the report promote <strong>recycled polyester<\/strong> as a sustainable choice. But here\u2019s what the report exposes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cRecycled polyester is almost exclusively made from plastic bottles, which disrupts the bottle-to-bottle recycling loop.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In short: <strong>it\u2019s a greenwashed shortcut that doesn\u2019t address the real issue<\/strong>\u2014<strong>microplastic shedding continues<\/strong> and those clothes still end up in landfills or incinerators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Only Two Brands Lead\u2014But Even That\u2019s Fragile<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of 50 global brands, only <strong>two were rated as \u2018leading the shift\u2019<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reformation<\/strong> \u2013 committed to reducing all synthetics (virgin and recycled) to <strong>under 1%<\/strong> by 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hugo Boss<\/strong> \u2013 plans to eliminate polyester and polyamide by 2030, <strong>but increased its synthetic use by 143%<\/strong> in recent years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cNearly all other brands are stuck in the \u2018trailing behind\u2019 or \u2018red zone\u2019\u2014marked by greenwashing, vague commitments, or total silence.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Next\u2014and How We Push Forward<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The report ends with a call for accountability.
