You could even call it a library of biodiversity, as the collection includes 4 million marine invertebraes alone 🤯, some dating back decades. And what's even more surprising: specimens from the seventies already contain microplastics!

A deep sea monitoring station was set up in the 1970s of fthe coast of Scotland. And the researchers have checked specimens from that era and found out that marine organisms contained microplastics way back then. This research shows that microplastic pollution is not something we're just witnessing lately, but has most likely been accumulating in the environment (and organisms) for decades.

Check the video that was created by Simon Dures, a conservation biologist that, on his YouTube channel, tells stories of people and projects working in conservation around the world.

At Planetcare we develop solutions that help solve the problem of microplastic pollution. With 35% of microplastics in the oceans coming from washing machines (synthetic clothes shed microfibers during washing), we have developed an easy to use and super effective microfiber filter that captures 98% of these microfibers.
